The Unspoken Link Between Patriarchy, Abuse, and Chronic Pain in Women

Beloved Women,

I want to talk about something that’s been silenced for too long.

Something that affects MILLIONS of us.

Something that’s a direct result of the patriarchal system we live in.

Chronic pain in women.

Specifically, the chronic pain that comes from fibromyalgia and other nervous system disorders.

The chronic pain that is DIRECTLY linked to childhood abuse and trauma. Abuse and trauma perpetrated, more often than not, by MEN.

I know this pain intimately.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 16 years old. I’ve dealt with it my whole life. And in the last six years, since a brain injury, it’s been off the charts.

Today, as I write this, I’m in the midst of a major flare-up.

My body is screaming.

My nerves are on fire.

Every movement is an act of will.

I’m not writing this for pity.

I’m not writing this for solutions.

I’m writing this because it needs to be SAID.

Because the TRUTH needs to be told.

Here Are the Facts

💋 Women who have experienced childhood abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) are SIGNIFICANTLY more likely to develop fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions later in life.

💋 The vast majority of this abuse is committed by men—fathers, brothers, uncles, family friends.

💋 Patriarchal systems ENABLE and PROTECT these abusers, silencing victims and allowing the trauma to continue.

💋 This unresolved trauma gets STORED in the body, manifesting as chronic pain, fatigue, and a host of other physical symptoms.

The Conversation We Need to Have

The chronic pain epidemic in women is not a coincidence.

It’s not a "woman’s issue."

It’s a PATRIARCHY issue.

A MALE VIOLENCE issue.

An issue of a system that allows men to abuse with impunity, and then blames women for the physical and emotional fallout.

And if a woman is abused, follow her history back and you’ll find patriarchy at the center.

This is the truth the system doesn’t want you to know:

Your pain is POLITICAL.

Your suffering is a SYMPTOM of a sick society.

A society that values male dominance over female well-being.

A society that tells women to "suck it up" and "push through" the pain men have caused them.

A society that gaslights women into believing their pain is "all in their head," rather than confronting the REAL source: male abuse.

My Experience

I know this because I’ve LIVED it.

I’ve pushed through the pain.

I’ve been told it’s "all in my head."

I’ve been gaslit, dismissed, invalidated.

But I don’t buy it.

And neither should you.

To Every Woman Living with Chronic Pain

Your pain is VALID.

Your pain is a TESTAMENT to your strength, your resilience, your survival.

Your pain is NOT your fault.

You are NOT weak for feeling it.

You are NOT "crazy" for naming its source.

You are a WARRIOR.

A SURVIVOR.

A woman who has endured the unthinkable and KEPT GOING.

To the Men Reading This

This is not about you.

This is not an invitation for your input, your defensiveness, your "not all men."

This is a RECKONING.

A calling out of the system YOU benefit from.

The system that allows YOUR gender to abuse with impunity.

The system that leaves women to pick up the pieces of their shattered bodies and psyches.

If you’re not actively working to DISMANTLE patriarchy, to hold abusers accountable, to create SAFETY for women…

Then you’re part of the problem.

And it’s time you sit down, shut up, and LISTEN.

A Rallying Cry

Beloved women,

This pain is not ours to carry alone.

It’s not a private burden.

It’s a COLLECTIVE trauma.

A trauma inflicted by patriarchy.

Enabled by male violence.

Silenced by a society that prioritizes male comfort over female safety.

And it’s time we SPEAK it.

SHOUT it.

SCREAM it until they HAVE to listen.

Because our pain is REAL.

Our stories are REAL.

Our LIVES are real.

And they MATTER.

More than their fragile egos.

More than their hollow denials.

More than their desperate clinging to a system that breaks us.

This is my story.

This is my TRUTH.

Today, even as my body rages against me, I SPEAK IT.

For myself.

For my sisters.

For every woman who has ever been told to "grin and bear it."

I see you.

I BELIEVE you.

I STAND WITH YOU.

And I will not be silenced.

Not by my pain.

Not by patriarchy.

Not by ANYONE.

This is a rallying cry.

A line in the sand.

A DECLARATION that we will no longer suffer in silence.

That we will no longer carry the wounds THEY inflicted.

That we will RISE.

We will HEAL.

We will SUPPORT EACH OTHER.

And we will BURN THE WHOLE FUCKING SYSTEM DOWN if that’s what it takes to be SEEN.

To be HEARD.

To be BELIEVED.

To be SAFE.

So rise up, beloved.

Rise up and SPEAK.

Rise up and FIGHT.

Rise up and HEAL.

You are not alone.

You are not broken.

You are not "too much."

You are POWERFUL beyond measure.

And your pain is the PROOF.

Your pain is the SPARK.

Your pain is the BEGINNING of a revolution.

And we’re right here with you.

Burning it all down,

One truth at a time.
