Screw Forgiveness: Let’s Talk About Radical Release

By Mama Tiff

Woman standing strong in the wind, eyes closed, symbolizing release and emotional freedom.

Let’s get one thing straight:

I don’t do forgiveness anymore. Not the way you’ve been taught, not the way it’s been force-fed to you by churches, therapists, parents, or polite society.

“You have to forgive them so you can move on.”

“Forgive and forget.”

“If you don’t forgive, you’re just hurting yourself.”

Please. Stop it.

It’s bullshit.

Forgiveness isn’t freedom

Let’s call it what it is:

Forgiveness, as most people sling it around, is just a spiritual guilt-trip. A get-out-of-jail-free card for people who don’t want to actually own what they did. It’s a patriarchal relic, a hand-me-down commandment designed to keep you swallowing your pain so the world can keep spinning - while you lie awake at night wondering why your gut still knots up every time you see their nasty face.

Well, I’m done with it.

I’m not interested in toxic positivity. I’m not interested in pretending that moving on means I’m the “bigger person” while I secretly bleed inside.

And I sure as hell am not interested in forgiving people who have no intention of changing, apologizing, or facing the harm they caused.

So what’s the alternative?

Let’s talk about radical release.

Not “forgiving” the person, but releasing the story. Releasing the hold it has over your body, your heart, your mind. Releasing yourself from the endless loop of not feeling lovable and hoping they’ll change, or that you’ll finally be “good enough” to let it go.

This isn’t about being “not spiritual” .

It’s about being fucking honest with yourself about what has happened.

Letting yourself rage, grieve, sob, punch pillows, scream into the wind if you need to.

It’s about naming the truth and then setting it down - not for them, but for you.

Here’s what I do instead

  • I don’t “forgive” anymore.

  • I accept what happened.

  • I witness my own pain.

  • I release myself from the need for it to be different.

  • And when I’m ready, I fucking move on.

  • Not because someone told me to.

  • Not because I owe it to anyone.

  • But because I am not here to be a storage unit for other people’s bullshit.

You want real freedom?

Stop trying to forgive everyone.

Start telling the truth.

Feel what you feel.

Take your power back.

And release yourself from the past - on your own terms.

If that makes me less “spiritual” in your book, you can have your book back.

I’m not here to be good, or polite, or palatable.

I’m here to love and live, raw and real and free.

So here’s to radical release.

Here’s to not carrying what was never ours to carry in the first place. And here’s to anyone who’s ready to burn the old forgiveness rulebook and come home to themselves.

You don’t owe anyone a goddamn thing except your truth.

Now go live it.
