I’m Married to a Trans Man, and Anyone Who Thinks That’s a Mental Illness Can Fuck Right Off

Listen up, because I’m about to drop some truth that might just melt your freaking face off.

I’m married to a trans man, and it’s the best decision I ever made. Why? Because trans people are some of the most wise, courageous, and intelligent badasses on this planet.

My husband, Jack, is the most profound mindset coach you’ll ever meet. He’s in the middle of developing an app that’s going to change the world. And anyone who knows him will tell you: he’s the most incredible human. Loved, adored, trusted by all who have the privilege of being in his orbit. The wisdom he carries? Unparalleled. That’s why he’s in top 5% of all the coaches in the world.

I’m not an idiot. I know who I married. He’s an incredible husband, an incredible father, and the most delightful, intelligent man I’ve ever known. Period, end of story.

And the fact that he’s trans? That just makes him even more of a badass.

But apparently, some people missed the memo that we left the Dark Ages behind, because there’s still this bullshit idea floating around that being transgender is a mental illness. Well, I’ve got news for you, honey: the only thing mentally ill here is the stupidity of bigots.

Let’s break it down with some cold, hard, science:

So, you know how everyone’s always going on about “biology” when it comes to gender? Well, buckle up buttercup, because biology has a plot twist for you.

First off, we’ve got these things called “twin studies.” Basically, scientists look at identical twins, who have the exact same genes, to see if there’s a genetic component to being transgender. And guess what? There totally is. If one identical twin is trans, the other is WAY more likely to be trans too. So right off the bat, we know that it’s not just a “choice” - there’s some serious nature at play here.

But it gets even cooler. You know how when you were in your mom’s belly, you were just this little alien-looking blob for a while? Well, during that time, a bunch of important shit was happening. Your brain was developing, your hormones were doing their thing, and your body was starting to form. And sometimes, the part of your brain that says “I’m a boy” or “I’m a girl” doesn’t match up with the body part that’s forming between your legs. That’s called “prenatal development,” and it’s another piece of the trans puzzle.

And if that’s not enough to blow your mind, get this: scientists have actually looked INSIDE the brains of trans people. They found that in some ways, trans brains look more like the brains of the gender they identify with than the sex they were assigned at birth. So if you’re a trans woman, for example, parts of your brain will look more “female” even if you were born with a “male” body.

This tells us that there’s some serious biology involved in being transgender. It’s not just a feeling or a phase - it’s a deep, innate part of who you are.

Being trans isn’t a disorder. It’s not a trend. It’s a natural expression of human diversity that has existed since the dawn of time.

You don’t believe me? Let’s take a little trip through history, shall we?

Indigenous cultures across the globe have recognized and honored gender diversity for centuries. Two-Spirit people in Native tribes? Revered as spiritual leaders and healers. Hijra communities in South Asia? Documented for THOUSANDS of years. The Māhū of Hawaii, the Fa’afafine of Samoa, the Bugis of Indonesia with their five genders? All thriving long before Western society decided to throw a hissy fit about where people pee.

Trans people aren’t some new phenomenon. They’ve ALWAYS been here, and many cultures have celebrated them as sacred and valuable members of the community.

So why are we STILL having to defend their basic right to exist?

Maybe it’s because we live in a world where wealthy white men run trafficking rings and abuse kids while society looks the other way. (Don’t even get me fucking started on this topic.) But God forbid a trans person just wants to live their truth - clearly THAT’S the real threat.

I’m calling BULLSHIT.

It takes a staggering level of courage to be trans in a world that wants to erase you. And that courage? That authenticity in the face of ignorance and hate? That’s the kind of wisdom and strength we should be celebrating, not pathologizing.

My husband is the smartest, bravest, most brilliant person I know BECAUSE of his trans experience, not in spite of it. And I’ll keep screaming that from the rooftops until transphobes shut the hell up and LISTEN.

This isn’t a debate. It’s a demand for basic human rights and dignity.

So the next time some ignorant asshat tries to tell you that being trans is a “mental illness” or a “choice,” you can school them with some hardcore science. And then maybe give them the finger, because seriously, fuck that noise. 🖕🖕🖕

At the end of the day, ALL of this just points to one thing: there are a million different ways to be human, and every single one of them is valid and beautiful.

You don’t need a PhD to understand that. You just need a heart and some basic decency.

Educate yourself. Challenge your biases. Listen to trans voices. And get on the right side of history before you get left in the fucking dust.

Oh and by the way, major medical organizations AGREE.

The American Medical Association? ✅

The American Psychological Association? ✅✅

The World Health Organization? ✅✅✅

NONE of them classify being transgender as a mental illness.

Because it ISN’T one.

The gender revolution is here, baby.

You can either evolve or get out of the way.

If you are an ally, please be brave enough to share this!
